Becky Chambers, if not the mother of Hopepunk, is certainly its standard bearer. She has new takes on robots beyond the uncanny valley, exploring ideas and concepts like what is kindness, compassion, and even “humanity” through the eyes of the construct rather than those made of meat. Becky started as a self-published author with a Kickstarter idea, and was later picked up by traditional publishing.
